Let's Explore the Beauty & Agony of CRM Together
Scaling CRM will be a love letter to the industry, the people who aim the highest, and the newer generations looking to reinvent the wheel.
Hi, my name is Drew Price and I have been in an obsessive relationship with email marketing for over 15 years.
I’ve run CRM programs for Grammarly, IGN Entertainment, and The Home Depot. But Grammarly is the crown jewel. From 2014-2020 I grew the program from 0 to 3 Billion emails per year.
Not just marketing email strategy & production ownership. Transactional emails as well. And not just campaigns, but automation and experimentation at scale as well. Oh, and I also launched ‘Grammarly Insights’ which is a weekly email with an insane amount of dynamic content. In other words, I was in charge of All the things.
And would you believe me if I told you that I was the only dedicated FTE working on email strategy for five years? It wasn’t until 2019-2020 that I hired five direct reports before I retired from Grammarly.
It’s not unusual in our industry to be under-resourced and/or extra resourceful. But what I’m saying here is that this was a J-O-B.
But I loved it. I loved the challenge. I loved finding the simplest, lowest effort/highest impact solutions to problems. And I loved the trust and autonomy I was given by my manager and the executive team to realize my vision.
Most importantly here: Every single thing I shipped I shipped with a lot of TLC and love for the customer.
Scaling CRM is not about me. It’s about you. I’m here to teach & shine a light on the various ways to approach a problem and to provide a ‘check’ on the rest of the content on the internet that is oftentimes generalized and watered down.
For the last several years I’ve had the pleasure of mentoring some of the brightest talents and I’ve realized this is where my path lies next. I hope this newsletter lets me 100x that impact.
I will be drawing upon my own direct experiences to provide examples of how I did so much with so little. But I’ll also be interviewing A LOT of the unsung heroes out there in the CRM world that are solving very interesting problems at scale that we can all learn from.
I look forward to being a window further into the wonderful (and at times very painful) world of CRM.
